Alice watched their Grandma leave, "Night." she mumbled as she stood back up, stretching. She walked over to the closet to get some blankets since she was always cold, no matter the temperature, she was freezing.

rofl, idk.

Shane fell silent.
He sat down on the floor, and picked up the remote control to the TV.
Flipping through the channels proved that there wasn't much on, so he just threw the remote onto the couch, leaving it on some late-night talk show.
He glanced at Alice, but said nothing.

btw, where are Allie and Matt..?

Alice fixed one couch for her and the other for Shane. She looked over at him, "That one's yours." she pointed. She didn't know what to think of her own brother right now.. she was just so overwhelmed with everything that he had said tonight that it left her dead in the brain. She sat down bundling up in her covers and just stared blankly ahead. She had to break the silence, "..How did you know mom and dad were dead, and I didn't?" she mumbled still not looking at him.

Hmm, I guess they can talk about it..
Oh jeez, I think Allie's still at the police station..
And I have no idea about Matt.

Shane lied down on his couch.
He stared up at the ceiling, frowning.
And then quietly, he said, "You wouldn't believe me."

Alice finally blinked, "Why do you say that?" she asked. She wanted to know now, she thought it was a simple question. "You know, I'm not as closed minded as you think.." she sighed rolling over to lay on her back.

Shane glanced over at her with a pained expression.
For a brief moment, it looked like he wasn't going to say anything more.
In the dark, he bore the expression of a little kid who was afraid the monster under their bed was going to eat him.
"You died that night," he replied. "Just like Mom and Dad."

Alice felt like everything stopped. She muted the tv and sat up slowly. "Did you just say.." she paused "Did you just say I died..?" she breathed slowly as she began shaking in silence. "But.. so am I.. this doesn't make sense.." she stood up, wrapping her covers around her. "Please explain.."

Shane frowned.
"When I woke up in the hospital, they told me what had happened.. they told me that mom and dad hadn't made it, and that you.. you died a few minutes before you could reach the hospital."
He wouldn't look at her.
Shane mumbled something, but it wasn't loud enough for her to hear.

I'm sure her reaction would of been something like this...

Alice walked over and sat at the end of his couch, "But.. if I died.. how am I still here..?" she avoided sitting on his feet but arched sideways so she could lay her head on the couch. "I'm still pretty lost here.." she mumbled dying to know how in the world she was still... here?

Shane hesitated.
"Well.. I.."
He stood up, and walked to the other end of the room.
"It's hard to explain.. I sort of.. made a deal.."

Alice tilted her head and sat back on the couch. "A deal? Shane, what the heck are you saying, just say it. I don't think much more could harm me after tonight." she sighed getting frustrated and tired of all the crap.

Shane slowly turned around but couldn't spit out the words.
Gritting his teeth, he punched the wall in frustration. "Damn it Alice!"
He looked at her then and shook his head.
"I sold my soul!"

Alice cocked her eyebrow "What the fu.." she shook her head and stood up walking back over to her couch, "Okay so you're gonna feed me some more bull shit before you even tell me how the ell I'm still alive?!" she was officially yelling. She didn't care if came in and went all crazy on them, she wanted to the truth.

Shane didn't say anything.
He leaned against the wall, and just stared at her.
It wasn't much of a surprise that she didn't believe him.
Seriously, who would?
He shook his head, and snatched his jacket off of the couch.
"I think I should go."

Alice stared at him for a moment, "Shane, when are you going to start facing your problems instead of running from them?" she huffed walking closer, "Will you at least explain how you 'sold your soul'?" she folded her arms and put all her weight on her left leg as she waited. She used her secret weapon; her eyes. She simply stared at him, hoping it would work.

Shane stopped, and looked down at her.
He sighed, giving in.
"Well, I left the hospital and had decided that I was going to leave the city, and start somewhere new, fresh. But a demon showed up and offered me a deal. She said she'd bring you back in exchange for my soul, and in two year's time, she'd come to collect it."
He shrugged, "So I said yes."

Alice shook her head "So if and when she takes your soul.. what'll happen to you?" she loosened her grip, not wanting to believe him, but how could he make that up off the top of his head? She stayed standing even though it was already 3 in the morning now.. she was so tired, but she wasn't sleeping till she knew what was happening.

Shane stiffened.
"Well, uhmm..", he paused, "I don't know."
He shrugged, like it wasn't that big of a deal, and sat back down on the couch.
"It's late, and I'm tired," he said, quickly.

Alice remade her bed and settled back down. She closed her eyes then slowly opened them. "Shane..?" she mumbled "What if something does happen.. what if you do.. disappear..?" she asked quietly. Her voice shook as fear swelled up in her throat and she turned the television off.

Shane rolled over on his side.
"I don't know," he answered, honestly. "But my time's not up yet."
He lied there in the dark for a while, thinking.
And eventually, he fell to asleep.

Alice sat up and looked at him for a minute. She then decided to lay back down and turned on her side, facing the couch. She traced the patterns with her finger a while till she eventually decided to get up and get a snack. She tip-toed to the kitchen and prowled through the cabinets. "Yes.." she smiled brightly when she found some chocolate rice cakes.

Allie leaned against the lamp post, and stared down the empty street.
She didn't have anywhere to go.. she'd tried finding Matt, but no luck.
The doctors at the hospital said that he had just gotten up and left; that he shouldn't have been able to do that after what had happened.
"What am I supposed to do now?", she asked the empty darkness, as if it were going to just give her an answer.
With Matt gone, she was afraid to admit that she had nobody else to turn to.

Alice ate some rice cakes till she got tired of them. She continued prowling until she found the glorious, almighty, delicious, breath taking.. "Nuuuuuuteeeeeeeellllllllllaaaaaaaa..." she grabbed the jar and the largest spoon she could find and became a happy little girl.

Grandma suddenly came out of nowhere.
She was holding up a baseball bat as if she were ready to smash somebody's face in.
Then she realized it was just her granddaughter.
"Alice!", she whispered, loudly. "What are you doing?"

Alice froze mid-bite, "Midnight snack.." she mumbled with a full mouth. She swallowed slowly and put the nutella back in the cabinet, and finished off her spoon full. She set the spoon in the sink then stared at her grandma like a clueless puppy.
